The cradle of Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro

Territory

History and Territory

Family-owned for over 140 years, the Estate lies in the heart of the Lambrusco Grasparossa production area, in the municipality of Castelvetro. Its more than 50 hectares of vineyards stretch up to the first Apennine foothills, where alluvial deposits of the ancient Guerro river shaped the land.

The gently rolling landscape is the result of the natural alternation of erosion and sedimentation. The topsoil — up to 50–60 cm deep — has a silty texture with traces of gravel.

At the heart of the estate lies the renowned Cialdini vineyard, source of the Grasparossa "Vigneto Cialdini" — a true Lambrusco cru, recognisable for its unique character and complexity.

A unique microclimate, constant ventilation and strong temperature swings make this the perfect cradle for a great Grasparossa.

Lambrusco Grasparossa

The most classic of the Modenese Lambruschi — discover the aromatic richness that makes it a great wine.

Grasparossa is a grape variety of ancient origins grown in the area around the town of Castelvetro, south of Modena, where the first Apennine hills begin.

The soils develop on ancient alluvial deposits of the Guerro stream mixed with gravel, at times emerging at the surface. The grapes, with their intense red colour and high tannin content, give life to a wine of strong structure, rich and fleshy. Historically made with the ancestral method, it was often rough and, due to the heavy sediment, relegated to strictly local consumption. The advent of the Charmat Method revealed the best traits of Grasparossa, highlighting its freshness, pleasant aromas and harmonious fruit.

A great red wine — balance and versatility for a truly "fleshy" wine

Moreover, the right balance between significant acidity and natural residual sugar makes it a Lambrusco with a cross-generational appeal. Thanks to its renewed personality, it has received significant recognition from the market — today, Grasparossa has rightfully joined the aristocracy of Italian wine. Grasparossa is a fundamental grape for Cleto Chiarli: within the Villa Cialdini Estate lies an ancient vineyard of original "Graspa Rossa" clones, producing extraordinary grapes that allow us to obtain the famous "Vigneto Cialdini" Lambrusco, recognised and appreciated by the finest Italian and international clientele.

Pignoletto

Pignoletto

A versatile and complete grape variety, with ancient roots in Grechetto Gentile.

As its name suggests, Greece is the country of origin of this grape, which is cultivated in many parts of central-southern Italy. In Emilia, under the name Pignoletto, it finds its perfect habitat in the hills and foothills between Modena and Bologna, with reliable records dating back to the 1600s.

What we love about Pignoletto is above all its versatility — few grapes on the same terroir can produce ready-to-drink sparkling wines, well-structured still whites with ageing potential, and even important sweet passito wines.

The perfect balance between aromatic complexity and structure

This is because we are dealing with a grape variety that combines a beautiful aromatic side — so much so that in the past it was thought to descend from Riesling or Pinot Blanc — with the tannic and polyphenolic components of a great wine. We find all of this in our sparkling Pignoletto Modén and partly in the Blanc de Blancs, where the particular terroir of the Castelvetro area, between plain and hills, enhances the fresh and fruity character that invites the sip, always maintains tension, and makes the wine truly satisfying — open to many pairings that would be difficult for other aromatic sparkling wines.
